The first camera bag I remember was a vintage Chanel chain/leather crossbody bag with a leather tassel on the side of the bag. As an adult, I gravitate towards small, easy to carry crossbody bags. In this article, I’ll feature my favorite bands available on the market right now.
These small, rectangular crossbody bags got their name from holding cameras (when they were larger than our iPhones). Now, they are a classic silhouettes that come in a variety of price points… but we’re still calling them camera bags. By definition, all of our phones are camera bags, but whatever.

What is a camera bag?
Contrary to the name, these won’t fit your SLR camera, but they will fit your phone, wallet, and anything you need for a day out. They are larger than a wallet on a chain but smaller than a shoulder bag.
Features of a camera bag
- Top zip closure
- Crossbody strap
- Rectangular silhouette (usually with rounded corners)
And just about every brand makes one! Here are a few of my favorites:
